This little road is crazy, I thought that Yerba Buena was difficult but this thing barely qualifies as a road. I've taken this route twice, once in my car and once on my bike, and both times have been impressed by the challenge it offers but also respectful for the risk you take when using this piece of asphalt as a playground.

While on the map it may look a little complicated, with the road changing it's name 3 times before tying in with Yerba Buena, but when taken from north to south I didn't have any difficulty figuring out where I was going.

The southern section (yellow on second map) heads up away from the coast and is easy to miss when driving on PCH - look for the brown signs because the road itself will flash by in a second. This section is pretty fun, mainly because there aren't any houses or driveways to deal with, but the road is pretty narrow and isn't in the best of shape.

Then center section (cyan on the map) runs along a small ridge but is also has a fair amount of houses, driveways, and cross streets. In addition, the road is quite narrow and does not have a yellow-line down the center so oncoming cars will need to give each other some room.

The final section (green on the map) can be quite dangerous. My last outing here was with some riding buddies who had me go first since they had never been on this road. There were a few times than I happened upon an oncoming vehicle in a blind corner, on a bike and a high level of self-preservation gave me room to pass, but my ridding partners later expressed their gratitude they were not in the lead. In a car it may have been a different outcome.

While not for everyone, the high technical skill and chance encounters with oncoming vehicles is not for the faint at heart, with a little care and cautious attitude this can be a fun diversion at the northern end of Malibu.

Climbing up away from the coast, not much room up here.
