The first time I drove Latigo Canyon I started off PCH and headed up the mountain. I had heard from other drivers that this was a great road, but for the first several miles I was very dissapointed. The southern section (blue on map) has quite a few houses and driveways on either side, a bad situation for driving fast.

I resigned myself to a lesiurely pace up the hill until all of a sudden the houses ended and there was nothing but a very technical, tight road with corners one after another after another. If high speed is your game this is the wrong road, and you better have good tires.

There are some things to watch for. Just after you break over the ridge in the north-bound direction you will come across several more houses and driveways, and again at the northern end when Latigo ends at Kanan Dume Rd. In the residential areas watch for parked cars and people out jogging or walking their dogs. I drove this road on a saturday afternoon and didn't have one car block me, but did pass a few going the other way and a couple of bikes.
