PIUMA RD. Date reviewed - 4/06 _________________________________ Fun . . . . . . . . 5 Difficulty . . . . .High Traffic . . . . . . Light Driveways . . . .Light Condition . . . . Fair to Good Length . . . . . .6.5 miles _________________________________ Like many roads in the Malibu area, this road isn't very long but it sure is fun. Most of the road runs along the top of the ridge, giving nice views of both the valley to the north and the ocean to the south, with the western section dropping down into the valley and towards Las Virgenes Rd. which will connect with either PCH or Mulholland Hwy. Headed west away from Rambla Pacifica the road runs fairly level, with only minor changes in elevation, but it is anything but boring. While there are a few houses and driveways scattered about, for the most part this section of road is a ridge-runner's paradise with endless s-curves and short straights. While the views in both directions are great, it won't pay to let your attention waver. This road is very technical, and even without falling rocks and lose dust the narrow pavement and tight corners demand the most from anyone traveling this way. At the eastern end is a very tight hair-pin u-turn that leads you into a tight down-hill section. This piece of the road isn't very long, but will test your brakes until coming to another tight hair-pin u-turn that at least isn't quite at treacherous as the one up above. The final section winds down through some houses and a few driveways before meeting Cold Canyon which leads to Mulholland Hwy. to the north, or continue on Piuma to Las Virgenes. |
