I had driven past this road several times when I would use Angeles Forest as a freeway bi-pass but had never stopped to check it out. A friend and I were out on our motorcycles one day and decided to see what it was like. Several miles out we were caught by a group of high-performance cars out for a day of fun; obviously somebody feels this road is worth driving. After letting them pass we followed them until coming to the first intersection, which is just less than 7 miles from Angeles Forest, and they were not willing to get their cars wet in the river crossing.

As noted on the map to the right, there is actually a "wash" where water from the nearby lake passes over the road instead of under a bridge. Heading east this should not pose a problem as you have just passed a 4-way stop intersection but headed west pay attention to the signs; hitting this at high speed could be a serious issue. I crossed in my motorcycle at slow speed and the water wasn't deep enough to pose a problem.

East of the wash the road is a 3.5-mile straight shot until reaching Fort Tejon Rd., so if you are willing to take the risk some high speeds can be enjoyed here. West of the wash the road is a collection of sweeping corners and short straights - this road can be enjoyed at a pretty high rate of speed. The pavement isn't perfect but it is in much better shape than some of the other roads in the foothills.
